Wormwood, grown and harvested from my own witch’s garden, is a plant of thresholds — used for centuries to bridge the worlds of the living and the departed. Its protective nature echoes Hel’s role as guide to the dead and guardian of mysteries best faced without fear. Elderberries, long considered fruits of the underworld, are sacred to her name — connected to the elder tree, a living doorway between this world and the next. Within the wax rest clear quartz, representing purity, reflection, and divine understanding, and smoky quartz, a grounding stone that absorbs sorrow and transmutes grief into strength. Together, these crystals reflect Hel’s dual nature — her half that shines with divine light and her half cloaked in shadow and peace.
